SUMMARY

We will begin by obtaining the necessary products for the synthesis of the ammonium nitrate and calculations relevant for subsequent production. First of all, we must know the product we are going to use (MSDS).

We will mix (HNO3 + NH3), with all the security measures explained in the safety data sheets, then proceed to the evaporation of excess water to increase the concentration of our product (NH4NO3). After that, we will proceed to crystallization.

Then mix it again with water to pass through the filter press, eliminating possible residues having the mixture and once made purification proceed to obtain the final product by lyophilization.

After all this, we will study the obtained performance, if they are within our objectives to make the different concentrations needed in different applications so that we can use it. Once we get all the necessary data, we will continue to take on a larger scale and then market it.

That is the general summary of the operation to produce ammonium nitrate on a school laboratory, which is a little bit different from an industrial scale.
